By Kate McGinty The Desert Sun Four-time Desert Hot Springs City Council candidate Robert Bentley denied Friday ever being last in a Desert Hot Springs election, despite vote counts that show he was fifth out of five candidates in 2009.

Bentley interrupted a question during Political Chat and Chew, the noontime video series The Desert Sun is hosting this election season, to repeatedly dispute the vote tally. "I never came in last," said Bentley, who is running for Desert Hot Springs mayor in the Nov. 8 election. "That's news to me. Who came in before me?" In 2009, Bentley lost election to incumbents Scott Matas and Jan Pye.

With 312 votes, Bentley also finished behind challengers Russ Martin and Terry Scheurer, whose votes totaled 893 and 365 respectively. During the hourlong chat on Friday, Bentley who is the curator of an online doll museum and also represents clients in workers' compensation appeal cases laid out few specifics for running the city but stressed civility and his belief in marketing a positive image. WATCH THE CHAT With key mayoral and tax measures on the ballot this November, mydesert.com is hosting a monthlong series of live video chats for voters to join the debate. We've invited mayoral candidates in Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs to join us. Because I would tell them, those are miracle bubbles. That is fantastic water.

That is our mineral water. That is water that stands supreme over basically every other water that I've ever heard of. If I didn't feel it in my heart that those were miracle bubbles, I wouldn't say it, but I love Desert Hot Springs. Kate McGinty is a reporter for The Desert Sun. You saw that again on Tuesday when I brought up the stuff that we had fought for. They each echoed the very same things that I said.
