By CH'STiNE MAUR The Desert Sun INDIO Parents educating their children at home will get some help from Desert Sands Unified School District under a policy that received preliminary approval from the school board. "Some people like to keep their children at home often for religious reasons," said Pamela Rut-ledge, primary prevention program specialist who will work with parents. Board member Amy Swan-Draper said the program provides a parental choice alternative and might also be expanded to include students who are discipline problems and don't function well in a regular school setting. Parents in- the program would sign contracts that outline a study plan and an assigned work schedule for their children. Rutledge said a parent advisory board, support groups and network-.
