Compiled by David L. Hermann. RECALL Continued from Bl Sherman said the response addresses what he said was the real reason for the recall. "I feel they are after personnel because they are making innuendo about personnel and I am not going to air personnel issues out in front of the public," he said. Councilman Gary Bos worth filed his own response listing his accomplishments in office.

Recall backers now.have until Nov. 7 to file the petition with the city clerk, who must approve the language before allowing it to be circulated. Unlike the initial petition, which only required the signatures of residents who expressed their intent to recall the council, this petition to force a recall election must be signed by 1,500 registered voters. The group will have 90 days to gather the signatures. Mayor Jerry Pisha, Vice Mayor Doug Sherman and Councilwoman Kathy Ann Smith jointly signed a statement.

"The notice consists of nothing more than a list of unfounded statements, innuendo and personal attacks which have never been substantiated," they said. "Public discussion of such matters is not as simple and harmless as the petitioners have asserted." Miracle said the response did not address any of the petitioners' concerns. "It's a foolish response," she said. "I was speechless when I go it. It proves we are doing the right thing." 'it's a real bargain for the city," Landry said. After using several planes, including a donated low-wing T-34 classic military training plane that they sold for $101,101 after only putting about $4,400 worth of repairs into it, the squadron and city now have a $60,000 Cessna C-172 Divorces four-seater in a hangar waiting to go. "When the Police Department alerts us, we can have a pilot standing at the front desk waiting for instructions within 30 minutes," Landry said. The squadron pilots, who must become reserve police officers by taking a class at College of the Desert, came from the private sector after retiring from airlines and the military. The squadron has the use of seven additional planes that belong to the members.

In more than three decades of flying, the members have not been cited for any violations by the Federal Aviation Administration or had any accidents. "Most airlines would love to have our record," Landry said, adding that the pilots train at least once a month, 'it's a safe way to put something back into the community.
