MONDAY, MARCH 16, 1998 The Desert For the record Man found dead Senior lunch menus at Joshua Tree Riverside County Office on Aging Senior Nutrition Program Menu served in Desert Hot Springs and Cathedral City. 341-0401 JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK A park ranger found a dead man inside a van at the southeast edge of the park Sunday, sheriff's deputies said. The name of the 53-year-old man was not available because relatives could not be notified, deputies said. An autopsy is pending, though deputies are treating the case as a homicide. The victim was found by the ranger parked on an aqueduct road about 2:23 p.m.

No arrests had been made by Sunday. Anyone with information can call the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Indio station at 863- 8990. Theodore Monk, 88 Theodore Glenn Monk. 88. of Rancho Mirage, died March 14. 1998. at his home.

Mr. Monk was born Sept. 16, 1909, in New York to Abraham and Libby Miller Monk. He married Audrey Lois Zellman, also known as radio singer Audrey Marsh, on June 28, 1936. in New York.

Mr. Monk was a 1930 graduate of New York University, where he received a degree in accounting. He served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Seabees, including service on Guam during World War II. Following the war, Mr.

Monk worked in the lumber industry. He was president of Square Lumber and Supply Co. in the Bronx, N.Y.. and served as president of the New York and Suburban Lumber and Trade Association. He was a member of the Emanuel Lodge of the Masonic Order in New York.

Mr. Monk was a volunteer with the Bedside Network of the Veteran's Administration Hospital in New York and the Jerry L. Pettis Veteran's Hospital in Loma Linda. He was a longtime resident of Stamford. before moving to Rancho Mirage, where he lived for 12 years.

Mr. Monk is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey Marsh Monk; two daughters, Meredith Monk of New York and Tracy Monk Durland of Ojo Sarco, N.M.; a sister and a brother, Marilyn Beckwith of Locust, N.J., and Gilbert F. Monk of Roslyn Heights, N.Y.: and four grandchildren. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Wiefels and Son Mortuary in Palm Springs.
