County on date Indicated by file stamp above Published July 24 August 1 9 11 144 By JANE BRODY NY Haws News fcntet NEW YORK There is according to Ecclesiastes time to be born and a time to die a time to plant and a time to pull up that which is planted a time to kill and a time to heal a time to break down and a time to build The Biblical list goes on and oh as if the ancients had anticipated discoveries made only in the last decade about the many different times in life For it turns out there is also (among many others) a time to eat and a time to fast a time to work and a time to play a time to sleep and a time to wake up and even a time to treat and a time to withhold treatment and these times often conflict with the schedules imposed upon us by the practical world While some people clearly live by the dock on the wall all of us are governed by a complex series of inner clocks that regulate hundreds of biological functions Our inner clocks in part dictate our times of elation and depression patience and irritability precision and carelessness Understanding these clocks what they are how they work in concert and how they can be thrown off schedule can help you organize your life to maximize performance and pleasure rather than waste energy fighting the natural inclinations It is already known for example that people are likely to be least alert after lunch that calories consumed at breakfast are less likely to turn to body fat than those eaten at supper that a high-protein breakfast enhances alertness and that a high-carbohydrate supper helps induce sleep Chronobiology researchers are convinced that an understanding of biological rhythms can be used to enhance the safety of air and automobile travel reduce clerical errors and industrial accidents ease Jet lag improve nutrition and weight control and even aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases like cancer and high blood pressure Studies at the University of Minnesota have shown that some cancer drugs are more effective and their side effects least severe if they are administered at one time of day rather than another The French chronobiologist Dr Alain Reinberg has shown that patients respond best to asthma medications when they first wake up and that bronchodilators had no beneficial effect when given after 4:30 pm The intricate system of biological clocks govern fluctuations in body temperature heart rate blood pressure hormone release metabolic rate immune response sleepiness distractibility alertness reaction time processing of calories and nutrients memory mathematical skill physical prowess and strength and many other functions that account for what we can and cannot do Each of these functions has a peak and a trough and a predictable cycle that may repeat itself in minutes hours days or weeks Under normal circumstances all these cycles are coordinated to maximize your ability to survive However if something happens to throw off the system such as traveling to a different time zone changing your work shift or simply sleeping late on weekends or vacation the various clocks get out of synch Since one rhythm may take a day to recoup another three days and still another two weeks you may feel out of sorts for some time until all the inner clocks are once again running on the same time NOTICE OF TRUSTEE'S SALE As many as 15 million Americans will suffer heart attacks this year And an estimated 550000 heart attack victims will die according to a study by the American Heart Association The study shows cardiovascular disease is still the leading killer But whether you are an owl or a lark chances are experience a low point for an hour or two in the early afternoon According to the anthropologists Marcia Thompson and David Harsh! writing in Psy-chology Today the postlunch letdown is not -a function of what or even whether we eat and drink but rather is a heritage of bur tropical origins In the course of evolution both animals and people learned to relax during the heat of the day when alertness and efficiency naturally flag The researchers suggest eating a late lunch (say at 1 pm or later) and taking it easy until around pun when alertness and activity rise again Shift work and jet lag People naturally wake up when their body temperature starts to rise and they get sleepy when it begins to falL If an alarm clock or disturbance rouses them while body temperature is still sinking to its daily trough they are likely to feel sleepy and out of sort! The clock that governs body temperature can be reset and all the clocks that are coordinated with it are also reset after a week of arising sleeping and eating at approximately the same new time a person is likely to fed better Studies have shown that it is easier for people to adjust their bodies to a day that starts later than one that begins sooner than they are accustomed to This is comparable to the time-zone change that occurs when you fly from east to west which most people adjust to more readily than if they fly west to east If you sleep late on the weekend (and stay up later) when that alarm goes off on Monday morning you may fed as if you've been awakened in the middle of the night For most weekend stay-a-bed! Monday morning at work is a washout Unfortunately these facts were learned long after American industries established shift work Because workers usually dislike the night shift and don't want to stay on it long most of the 27 percent of employed Americans who do shift work change shifts weekly No sooner have their internal clocks adjusted to one shift than they are put on another The result is that they suffer chronically from work-induced jet lag The accident at Three Mile Island occurred at 4 am with a crew that had just rotated to the night shift and at a time of day when most people are least alert and slowest to respond to warning signal! A research team at the Harvard Medical School has shown that workers feel better are' healthier and more productive and are less likely to quit if shifts change once every three weeks instead of every week Furthermore the change was less disruptive if workers were rotated to a shift that started later than their current shift At the Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago the biologist Charles Ehret has shown that it also helps to start changing one's meal schedule in anticipation of the new shift He has devised a special weekend diet for shift workers who will start a later shift on Monday: Feast on Friday with high-protein breakfast and lunch high-carbohydrate supper and no caffeine except between 3 and 5 pm eat sparingly all day Saturday keeping carbohydrates especially low and avoiding all caffeine in the morning stay up late Saturday night sleep late on Sunday and eat a high-protein breakfast and lunch on Sunday as late as possible and a high-carbohydrate supper just before going to bed Ehret is probably best known for his anti-jet-lag diet also an alternating routine that is begun four days in advance of one's expected arrival several time zones away Days one and three are feast day! as above and days two and four are moderate fast! Restrict caffeine to the hours of 3 and 5 pm on the first three day! on day four if you are flying westward have caffeine in the morning if flying eastward between 6 and 11 pm Break your fast on the fourth day with a high-protein foods at the breakfast hour of your destination city TSNO 03-359 NOTICE YOU ARE IN DEFAULT UNDER A DEED OF TRUST DATED 7 --43 UNLESS YOU TAKE ACTION TO PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY1T MAY BE SOLD AT A PUBLIC SALE IF YOU NEED AN EXPLANATION OF THE NATURE OF THE PROCEEDING AGAINST YOU YOU SHOULD CONTACT A LAWYER On August 3Q 1904 at 1:00 PM MEC ASSOCIATES INC a California Corporation as duly appointed Trustee under and pursuant to Deed of Trust recorded 0-32-43 In book 1901 page 149405 of Official Records In the office of the County Recorder of Riverside County State of California Executed by CAROL ANN HUTCHINSON An Unmarried Woman as her sole A separate Property WILL SELL AT PUBLIC AUCTION TOHIGHEST BIG DER FOR CASH (payable at time of sale In lawful money of the United States) at the main entrance to the County Courthouse 4050 Main Street Riverside California ail right title end Interest conveyed to and now hold by It under said Deed of Trust In the property situated in said County and State described as: PARCEL NO 1: An undivided one six thousand four hundred twenty sixth (1 4434th) Interest In and to the following described real property: (A) Lots 2 through 11 Inclusive of Tahqulti Park In the City of Palm Springs County of Riverside State of California as pgr map recorded In Book IL Page 7 of Maps In the Office of the County Recorder of said County EXCEPT from lots 3 to 13 Inclusive all that portion lying Easterly of the Westerly line of Tahqultz Drive as conveyed to the County of Riverside by deed recorded July 17 131' In Book 129 Pag 33 of Official Records as instrument No 1301 and as conveyed to th City of Palm Springs by deed recorded August 21 171 as Instrument No 113353 of Official Records ALSO EXCEPT from Lot 1 that portion lying Easterly of th Westerly line of Tahqultz Drive as conveyed to th City of Palm Springs by deed recorded August 21 172 as instrument No 112253 of Official Records (B) Lots I through 0 Inclusive Lots SO through 44 Inclusive the South half of Lot 45 and that portion of Lot A (Tahqultz Drive) now vacated lying South of the Westerly prolongation of th North line of said Lot 50k of Tahqultz Park In th City of Palm Springs County of Riverside State of California as per map recorded in Book 11 Pag 7 of Maps In the Office of th County Recorder of said County EXCEPT that portion lying Westerly of the Easterly line of Tahqultz Drive as conveyed to the City of Palm Springs by deed recorded August 21 1971 as Instrument No 113253 of Official Records (C) An easement for construction reconstruction alteration maintenance repair operation use and enjoyment of certain Improvements as mare particularly set forth In that certain document entitled Ease- 'l I i i i I 1 7-2 4 1- I mant Agreement dated September 25 100 executed by A Palm Springs Inc as grantor and Tennis Club Associates as grantee recorded In the County Recorder of Riverside County on Septembers!
